Nice Polished Louisiana 5" Petrified Palm Wood Round
Louisiana Petrified Palm Wood, such as this piece, come from the Catahoula Formation in Western Louisiana. About 30 million years ago the coastline of Louisiana was peppered with Palmoxylon Palm Trees, which is why Louisiana made Petrified Palm Wood their official State Fossil. The spotted look of the palm wood is caused by fossilized rod-like structures within the original porous wood.
