Collector notes
Hyalite bubble opal is a unique variety of hyalite opal named for its rounded, bubbly or botryoidal surface texture. It is famously found in the Mineral Mountains near Milford, Utah, and is also known locally by names like bacon opal, candy opal, or satin flash opal. Formed of roughly 90% to 95% silicate opal with trace mineral impurities such as iron, copper, and magnesium. Many hyalite opals exhibit a strong bright green reaction under shortwave ultraviolet light due to trace amounts of uranium/uranyl ions.
