Collector notes

Libyan Desert Glass is a rare, translucent yellow-to-gold natural impact glass formed about 26 to 29 million years ago in the eastern Sahara Desert. Found scattered across tens of square kilometers in the Great Sand Sea across the border of western Egypt and eastern Libya. Composition: Composed of nearly 98% to 99% pure silica (lechatelierite), making it the purest impact glass on Earth. Creation: Formed when a meteorite impact or cosmic airburst superheated desert sand to temperatures exceeding 2,900°F (1,600°C), melting and rapidly cooling the silica.
