Collector notes
Owyhee Picture Jasper is a highly sought-after, fine-grained chalcedony known for intricate patterns that resemble desert and mountain landscapes. Mined in the rugged Owyhee Mountain region along the Oregon-Idaho border, this "King of Picture Jaspers" features earthy tones of tan, brown, cream, and dusty blue-gray. Discovered in the late 1960s, the material quickly gained legendary status among rockhounds. Because many traditional claim sites are now protected, the "old-stock" rough material has become increasingly rare and valuable.
