Owyhee picture jasper is a highly collectible microcrystalline quartz known as the "King of Picture Jaspers." Mined near the Idaho-Oregon border, it features unique natural banding and coloration that resemble dusty blue skies, rolling desert hills, and sunsets. It is highly prized by lapidarists for making designer cabochons. Due to new park restrictions in the Owyhee Canyon, heavy mechanized mining is no longer permitted. Consequently, supplies rely heavily on old-stock material, and high-quality slabs or polished specimens can be found through specialist lapidary shops and jewelry makers.
